This book is for you if…
You're carrying stress, exhaustion, or full-blown burnout, and the strategies that used to work no longer work.
You've been told to "manage" a chronic or autoimmune condition — and something inside you refuses to accept that as the whole story.
You're navigating loss, grief or a major life change, and you want a way through that doesn't require pretending you're fine.
You've lost a little of your self-belief along the way, and you're ready to find it again.
You want to perform at your peak — in your work, your relationships and your health — without breaking yourself in the process.
If any of those felt like they were written for you, keep reading. This book was written for you.
The patient. The practitioner. The former CEO.
At 29, I woke up paralysed down one side of my body. An MS attack. I was transferred from the hospital ward into rehabilitation, where I would live for two months. I sat in front of many doctors who told me I would never walk again.
It was the hardest time of my life.
I had to rebuild my mind, body and life to find another way.
What followed was a 16-year journey — out of paralysis, into remission, and through 13 years of clinical practice as a kinesiologist working with people in exactly the kind of pain I once knew.
After my recovery, I went on to build Bend Like Bamboo and Nourissh, two startups as CEO, where the very same lessons applied: how to perform at a high level without burning out.
Bend Like Bamboo is the book I wish someone had handed me in that hospital bed. It's the science, the stories and the practical method that took me, and the clients I work with now, from broken to bending. From surviving to genuinely thriving.
It's written from three perspectives almost no one holds at once: the patient who lived it, the practitioner who studies it, and the CEO who knows what it takes to keep showing up while you're rebuilding.
Inside Bend Like Bamboo, you'll learn how to…
This isn't a memoir, and it isn't a textbook. It's a roadmap, grounded in nervous system science, the power of kinesiology and lived experience, that you can actually use.
Each chapter ends with a tool, a reflection or a practice you can put to work today.
Activate your body's natural healing intelligence — and finally understand why "pushing through" stops working.
Build the kind of resilience that bends without breaking, no matter what life throws at it.
Shift your mindset from rigid and reactive to flexible, focused and growth-oriented.
Reconnect with yourself — and with the people who matter most — in a way that actually lasts.
Turn the obstacles you've been told to "cope with" into the foundations of your next chapter.
Use the BAMBOO Method — six pillars that move you from awareness to embodied transformation.

The six pillars at the heart of the book
The BAMBOO Method is the framework I built from my own recovery and 13 years of clinical practice. It's the structure that runs through the book — six pillars that work together to move you from surviving to thriving.
-
Rewiring the beliefs that keep you stuck
-
Moving out of survival and into safety.
-
Using the body to release what the mind can't
-
Fuelling healing from the inside out
-
Anchoring yourself in support and possibility.
-
Making the new patterns stick.

Not at all. The book is written for anyone — patient, leader, sceptic or curious — and assumes zero background. The science is woven in plainly, and every chapter ends with something you can actually use.
-
No. While Amanda's story begins with MS, the BAMBOO Method applies just as much to burnout, grief, life transitions and high-performance demands. Roughly half the readers come from the chronic illness side, and half from the leadership and burnout side.
